Christian Brodhag is Civil engineer and PHD in physical science, emeritus professor at the School of the Mines of Saint-Etienne (France) in innovation, sustainability and social responsibility. He chairs the international association Construction 21 which carries the Internet platform for green building and sustainable cities practitioners (www.construction21.org). He chairs the French national industrial association in sustainable design (www.eco-conception.fr).
He chaired the steering committee of the Francophonie Institute for Sustainable Development (IFDD) (2006 - 2011), and coordinates the Organizing Committee of International Organization of Francophonie for Rio 2012 (2002-2003).
He was Interministerial Delegate for Sustainable Development by the French government (2004-2008), in charge of implementation of National sustainable development strategy. He has conducted a peer review process of the French NSDS. During this mandate he chaired the international taskforce on sustainable tourism (Marrakech process on SCP) and he represented the French government in the redaction of ISO 26000 the Guidance on social responsibility.
He was member of the Coppens Commission, Commission on the Environmental Charter (2002-2003), which introduced the environment into the French constitution. He was Regional Councilor Rhône Alpes (1992-1994) and Municipal Councilor of Saint-Étienne (2008-2014), and is currently vice-president of the Council of Development (advisory council) by Saint-Étienne Métropole.
