Mayor of Bonn

Ashok-Alexander Sridharan, born in Bonn in 1965, married, three children.

Mr. Sridharan is Mayor of Bonn since October 21, 2015. He graduated from law school in Bonn in 1995 and has pursued his career in local government administration. From his previous position as city treasurer and city manager, he benefits from a broad range of experience in local administration and management, including international partnerships.

As Mayor of Bonn, Mr. Sridharan has set his path to expand networks and to strengthen Bonn as a nationally and internationally successful location and platform for global sustainability. He is deeply committed to Bonn’s role as Germany’s United Nations City and host to a great number of governmental and non-governmental organizations. Mayor Sridharan promotes the city as a business location and hub for science and education. Furthermore, he takes pleasure in conveying the rich cultural life in Bonn and the heritage of Ludwig van Beethoven, whose 250th birthday will be celebrated in 2020. At local level, major social targets of Mayor Sridharan include the integration of refugees in Bonn as well as education in general.

Mayor Sridharan feels personally committed to the goal of UN Bonn to shape a sustainable future and to the Agenda 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. He actively supports the work of national and international city networks, advocating the important role of local governments, stimulating local action, and fostering city-to-city cooperation. Since December 2015, he holds a seat in the Global Executive Committee of ICLEI Local Governments for Sustainability and was elected First Vice President in October 2016.

Mayor Sridharan offers services to businesses and organizations wishing to relocate to Bonn as well as to the city’s growing international community. Moreover, he patronizes platforms for fruitful debates in Bonn to link actors and raise awareness for Bonn’s topics amongst vision multipliers and the citizens of Bonn.
