The AUSTRIAN WORLD SUMMIT is the centrepiece of the Schwarzenegger Climate Initiative: Since its inception in 2017, it has become one of the largest climate conferences in the world. The summit in Vienna provides a platform to present concrete solutions and actions and to connect people. There are already many possibilities to fight the climate crisis. The summit offers a platform for successful projects and ideas that motivate and act as role models and connect people, businesses and climate leaders.
Nearly 4000 guests (despite two conferences taking place during the pandemic) from over 100 countries and millions of viewers from all over the world in front of their screens have been inspired by around 270 speakers from politics, business, science and civil society. The amount of people the conference reaches has grown from year to year, demonstrating that climate action is a global movement that is here to stay. The AUSTRIAN WORLD SUMMIT aims to continue to reach more and more people and inspire action on all levels.
"Creating Hope - Inspiring Action" is this year's motto of the international climate summit. Host Arnold Schwarzenegger will again be on stage together with Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen, who traditionally takes over the honorary patronage of the event and will talk with guests from all over the world about concrete climate protection measures and present existing innovative solutions.
The date of this year´s conference is not just any date but marks the anniversary of a historic day: 30 years ago , 154 countries agreed upon an international environmental treaty to combat pollution at the so called “Earth Summit” in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. Facing a war in Europe has shattered long-held beliefs and now adds a new dimension to the topic of climate change. This year’s summit will send a strong signal to the world, that there is hope for peace and a sustainable future, that we need more common action and that – together – we, the people, can succeed. In addition to looking back at climate policy over the past 30 years, the main focus will be on opportunities and solutions for the future. Topics such as the transformation of the economy and opportunities through digitalization will be discussed together with representatives from politics, science, business and civil society. In the afternoon, the focus will be on successful climate communication, climate-friendly food production and inspiring hopeful climate action stories.
